Okay I start this by saying...I was always a Marvel guy...I don't hate DC...but I always preferred the marvel comics. Having said that there is some serious DC hate going on in the world. Suicide Squad is the second DC film this year to receive majorly bad reviews and not really be a bad film. Is there slow pacing in the third act? Yes. Is there a tired old trope at it's core that three other major films used this year? Yes. Is it the worst movie ever? Not by a long shot.
The characters are well portrayed I think. Harley Quin is spot on and awesome. I think the Joker is played well. Some people complain he is too much of a punk, I'm sorry but Joker has always been a punk and sorta effeminate ...he is the worst humanity could degrade to. But with Harley Quin, he is almost human again. Will Smith's Deadshot is well done, I think he carries the character well. Diablo is great. He is so tortured. He wants redemption but doesn't know how to achieve it. Giving him a sliver of humanity and making him perhaps the only "Good" person in the film. Now I liked Katana, Killer Croc, and Captain Boomerang. but they are never really fleshed out(one of my few complaints).
A lot of people hate Enchantress, but I love the visuals on the character and the concept of her. I also like how another character in the cast is revealed to be connected to her.
Overall the visuals are great. I do concede to the fact the film has been over edited. You can tell the director had one vision in mind but after BvS backlash they went back and added new footage. Trying to make it more light hearted despite the dark tone of the film. I mean these are "bad" guys but the humor does make them seem more likeable.
In the end even with the poor third act, The first two acts are spot on and are great comic inspired material! It is worth seeing...still not as good as Deadpool or Civil War....but still worth a view.
